I received mine (thanks for the extra effort on the shipping, by the way) and installed it into my broken 80Gig 5.5G

It works great almost all the time. I do occasionally get the “This iPod needs to be reformatted” screen, but I reset the iPod and it’s fine again. I assume this is due to the cheap Transcend 32GB CF card I put in. This definitely beats either a broken unit or paying the cost of a new one for a replacement hard drive.

I really worry about the ipod when opening it.I think it must be ugly i f its surface is broken.

Great that you are finally getting this product out to the public! I had read of your projects before and, since I am a bit clumsy on soldering, I had purchased some obscure Asian ZIF-to-CF adapter, which did not get me anywhere past a Sad iPod icon. When reinstalling the hard drive, it works again (more or less).

Can’t wait till your adapter arrives, no PITA messing with strips of foam to get a secure installation and then still having to pray that the thing will work on the iPod.
It will be such a great feeling, not having to be afraid to dock the iPod or take it on a bike ride, worrying that any action might be just the drop the mechanical miniature HD is waiting for to give me the middle finger.
